Members of the Leadership Team
The Leadership Team (LT) is the primary decision-making body of the Trust. It is under the responsibility of the Chief Executive Officer and has seven members.
The Leadership Team provides the operational leadership for the Trust. The role of the members is to implement the strategies decided by the Board of Trustees.
Chief Executive Officer
Martin’s interest in the disability sector began when he was completing his Home Nursing Training in Dunedin in 1989. From there he went onto supporting people at high school as part of the early transition to main stream schooling. He then worked for the IHC in Dunedin supporting people in residential and vocational services.
In 1993 Martin began with Hawksbury Trust as a Senior Support staff member. By 2008 he had worked his way up to the role of Chief Executive Officer.
Martin has completed training for his Diploma in Executive Management through NZIM, and over the years has attended many and varied career development opportunities within the intellectual disability area. His core training was through his years of working with and supporting people in their homes to achieve a satisfying life.
Martin is passionate about his role and he feels immensely privileged to have had opportunities which assisted him to appreciate the day to day issues for people, their families and staff.
In his private life Martin’s interests include walking, swimming and attending to his garden.
Human Resource Manager
Neil started working for the Trust in 1996. It was a considerable vocational change as he came from a clerical background and had no experience working alongside people with intellectual and physical disabilities. However it soon became apparent that he was suited to the role and since that time has enjoyed the variety the position provides as well as the interaction with the people the Trust supports.
From July last year he has been in a more administrative role and from January this year was appointed Human Resource Manager. Neil still visits the homes in both Christchurch and Dunedin when completing internal quality audits. In addition he oversees the Mosgiel homes when Kim is absent.
Neil’s children are now adults and so it is time to enjoy a quieter home lifestyle with the odd visit from” returnable “grandchildren. Recreation time is also a little less adventurous with a good book and a little gardening, (not at the same time), being two of his favourite pastimes.
Kim was first employed by Hawksbury Trust at the Gladstone Rd home when it opened in June 1993. Her roles within the organisation have been many and varied over the years and include being involved in the Pilot for MSD Transition from Vocational Placement to Outreach Retirement Programme, Team Leader at Larnach Rd and Gordon Rd and being involved in Property Management with the Trust. Her passion and enthusiasm for the disability sector has grown and she enjoys the varied opportunity that she now has as Operations Manager of the Dunedin and Christchurch homes.
Kim has two adult children and her personal interests include interior decorating, gardening and reading.
Susan joined the Trust in May 2016. Prior to this Susan has worked in a variety of administration roles primarily in the NGO sector who deal with health.
Susan is excited about her role with the Trust and looks forward to growing and developing with the team.
Outside of work Susan enjoys spending time with her friends and family, getting into the kitchen or reading a good book.
